Transforming Facility Management with Technology – Q&A with Joe Loethen
Author: Joe Loethen, Senior Director of Engineering and Innovation • January 24, 2025
Q: Can you tell us about your current role at SITE Technologies?
Joe Loethen: As the Senior Director of Engineering and Innovation at SITE Technologies, I lead a talented team of experts, including PhD pavement engineers, certified roofers, landscape architects, and exterior coatings specialists. Our mission is to harness their deep expertise to assess and optimize large fleets of facilities.
Q: What is your professional background, and how has it shaped your career?
Joe Loethen: I’ve always been passionate about infrastructure and its impact on communities. I hold a degree in Civil Engineering and am a registered professional engineer. Over the years, I’ve gained invaluable experience working in municipal engineering, consulting, and for a large facility owner overseeing retail and warehouse development and maintenance. These roles equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and challenges involved in managing vast property portfolios.
Q: What unique skills or expertise do you bring to the team?
Joe Loethen: My blend of technical expertise, hands-on experience, and a strategic vision for asset management uniquely positions me to contribute to SITE’s mission. I thrive on translating complex engineering challenges into practical solutions that drive efficiency and sustainability.
Q: What inspired you to join SITE Technologies?
Joe Loethen: During my tenure at Walmart, I was responsible for pavement maintenance across all retail and warehouse facilities. At the time, SITE was already providing services for our warehouse portfolio, but the retail sites were relying on an outdated ‘boots on the ground’ assessment process. When I compared the two approaches, it was clear that SITE’s platform was far superior. The consistency and efficiency of their digital assessments allowed me to prioritize facilities based on need without ever leaving my desk. SITE Transformed a process that was like using an Etch A Sketch into a cutting-edge, technology and data driven solution.
Q: What excites you most about SITE Technologies and its mission?
Joe Loethen: SITE’s mission to bring sustainability and efficiency to companies managing vast facility portfolios is incredibly exciting. These businesses have billions invested in their buildings and parking lots, and SITE helps them maintain these assets efficiently. This not only saves money but also allows businesses to reinvest in their core operations, creating a ripple effect of positive outcomes.
Q: How do you see yourself contributing to SITE’s vision?
Joe Loethen: I’m committed to helping our clients unlock the full potential of SITE’s platform. By demonstrating how SITE enables them to be ‘best in class’ property managers and owners, we’ll continue expanding the platform’s capabilities and delivering even greater value to our users.
Q: What personal values or experiences align with SITE Technologies?
Joe Loethen: SITE’s leadership team, starting with the founder Austin Rabine, set the tone for a culture of innovation and excellence. It’s a privilege to be part of a company that’s driven by great people and a relentless pursuit of quality.
Q: What are you looking forward to achieving at SITE Technologies?
Joe Loethen: My goal is to help establish SITE Technologies as the gold standard for infrastructure assessment. This means not only setting benchmarks in efficiency and accuracy but also continuously innovating to meet the evolving needs of our clients.
Q: How can colleagues, customers, and partners connect with you?
Joe Loethen: I’m passionate about the SITE platform and am always willing to discuss it. Feel free to reach out via LinkedIn or through the SITE Technologies website.
